A Rock, A Yellow Balloon and A Hard Place shows a small, Flemish provincial town, seemingly caught between stasis and aspiration.
As are its inhabitants, connected by a universal longing for happiness and connection. I used to be one of them.
My focus is mainly on the dreams and ambitions of its young people, and how they will redefine this city in transition.
They externalize a different future and a mentality change within a scene we once used to share:
One where vulnerability, trying and taking a risk on failure can exist.
I see a town at the start of a new chapter, that within a few years will embrace its imperfections and what used to seem impossible will soon be:
the city gets rid of its straitjacket and thus becomes the stage for anyone who wants it to be.
